Women’s Participation in Governance in Kenya

One of our researchers engages a women’s group during field work in Kitui County

We are partnering with Women’s Empowerment Link (WEL) on a study to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of the Strengthening Inclusive Leadership and the transformative and leadership projects under Women’s Empowerment Link. WEL is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental women’s rights organization that seeks to empower women and girls to realize their full potential, worth and strength politically, socially and economically through advocating for their human and social justice rights. Our researchers have completed a pilot study in Kitui County where the programs under evaluation have been implemented. The pilot study revealed that the programmes had an impact in enhancing the likelihood of a woman participating in community leadership and governance, such as church leadership, school governance and groups (chamas) leadership. You can access the detailed pilot report via this link.
