Accelerating the bottom -up economic transformation agenda for inclusive growth through Gender Responsive Budgeting

Our research and advocacy partners, the IEA-Kenya. participated under the auspices of the Kenya Gender Budget Network in preparation of a memorandum to the National Treasury on Accelerating the bottom -up economic transformation agenda for inclusive growth through Gender Responsive Budgeting. The memo highlighted eight key points which should be the Minimum GRB standards for mainstreaming gender in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). Some of the shared comment included Provision of sex disaggregated data and a gender analysis in the five sectors prioritized by the government (Agriculture, MSME Economy, Housing and Settlement, Healthcare, Digital and Creative Economy). This entails establishing participation rates of women and men in these sectors and identifying the challenges they face. This will provide a basis for implementing GRB in these five critical sectors of the economy. Findings of our joint study on Gender-Responsive Budgeting are key in this process.
