SGBV: Fragmentation of Response Services poses a challenge

Multiple reporting is expensive, time consuming and traumatising

Data from our ongoing study on Impact of programmes and Initiatives addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence as a constraint to Women Economic Empowerment has pointed to a need for a centralized system that eliminates multiple reporting of Sexual and Gender Based Violence cases. Sampled respondents decried the fragmentation of services and confusion on the correct offices to approach. This was expensive, time consuming and traumatizing. Besides, it resulted to multiple reporting, thereby distorting the actual data on the prevalence, besides being tantamount to re-traumatisation of survivors.

Findings also indicate a strong correlation between Gender Based Violence and economic disempowerment. Survivors, therefore, called for support for funding for economic empowerment from the government and other agencies.
